The industrial practice is part of my academic curriculum as an Industrial Biotechnology student. In this experience I look forward to apply the knowledge that I acquired from my courses about biotechnology and its application to bio-processing and production. I also expect to understand the upstream and downstream processes at an industrial scale, and learn about all the elements that are involved in the production of a drug with medical applications. In addition, I want to acquire knowledge about the responsibilities and obligations with the patients in order to manufacture a high quality product that do not compromise the patient's health.
In this experience, I will be working in the Technical Operations Department at Abbvie Biotechnology Ltd in Barceloneta, Puerto Rico, specially in the upstream process team. I will be doing experiments in a small scale bioreactor model with the main focus in studying different raw materials and compounds in order to improve the cellular viability with the final objective of increasing the target product production.
I sincerely expect that this experience gives me an overview of the industry job and helps me expand my opportunities for my future as a professional.
